Utilizing Bio-Absorption Technology in Getting Rid of Toxic Chemical Elements in Industrial Waste Using Botanical Biomasses

Khaireya bint Mohamed Al-Qahtani, PhD

There has been a recent increase in industrial activities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that has led to the destruction of the ecosystem due to the accumulation of hazardous wastes, such as heavy metals and petroleum compounds. Since there is no treatment for these wastes, they accumulate in the environment and negatively impact human health. Modern studies have proven that the bioabsorption of toxic elements using biomass and microorganisms is an alternative technique that is less expensive and safe for the environment in comparison to more expensive, traditional methods. This new method also has many positive aspects. The research includes the use of experimental design in statistics, using experimental design systems and comparing them with lab experiments to determine the maximum bioabsorption of heavy metals from industrial waste.
