Fast-Track Research Funding Program to Support Publication in Top Journals

 

INTRODUCTION

Princess Nourah University (PNU) ensured to provide research and a supportive environment to attract researchers through adopting and presenting several initiatives and programs for scientific research. The Fast-Track Research Funding Program represents a paradigm shift in the research funding procedures, and it increases its effectiveness to suit the needs of researchers. Therefore, PNU will achieve its strategic objectives through increasing the quality of published scientific research in classified publications, and in achieving higher ranks in international classifications, that largely focuses on the indicators of scientific production and publishing. Thus, the fast-track funding in the top journals provide a motivating and supportive environment to achieve the university vision of being the beacon of knowledge and achieving excellence and leadership in scientific research.

TOP JOURNALS

A Top Journal is a classified scientific journal in various fields of science; including science, engineering, medical, applied, humanitarian, and social fields. These fields are listed in the databases of Web of Science Core Collection (WOS), and it has an impact factor according to the report of Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics) (Q1, Q2). Or listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field, which reflect the position and excellence of a journal in its field, making it an official and a reliable source in the evaluation of scientific research. 

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION AND IMPORTANCE

 

The program aims to motivate and support researchers in different colleges and the self-operating staff at the King Abdullah University Hospital. Therefore, achieving the vision of the university through working on high-quality research in fields that align with the research identity of PNU. Hence, enhancing research abilities in all various fields of science, including science, engineering, medical, applied, humanitarian, and social fields. It is possible to obtain funding through simple and fast procedures without the need of administrative and financial procedures, which many researchers find a further burden that consumes their time and effort. 

The researcher can submit an online request for research funding after finishing the research in accordance with the publication requirements or after receiving early acceptance and a request for minor modifications, or after receiving final acceptance for final review and modification before publishing.  

The research will be listed in the databases of Web of Science Core Collection (WOS) that has an impact factor according to the report of Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics) (Q1, Q2). Or will be listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field for various fields of science, including science, engineering, medical, applied, humanitarian, and social fields.

The amount spent for published research would be SAR 40.000, and to be listed in the databases (including research expenses and Researchers' reward), this does not act as an advance that requires payment. The maximum number for a researcher is 10 papers with the amount of SAR 400.000 during one funding cycle. 

 

OBJECTIVES 

 

  • Support and direct the researcher's effort for excellence; which supports the scientific research system and be in line with the research priorities of the university. 
  • Encourage inter-research cooperation between different departments, colleges and researchers within universities or local, regional, and international research centers. 
  • Motivate researchers and direct their research to serve the scientific research system within the university. 
  • Facilitate research-funding procedures to increase its effectiveness.
  • Increase the number of published scientific research in high-classified publication. Whereby, the output of the project is published research in an international journal listed in the databases of WOS that has an impact factor according to the report of Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics) (Q1, Q2), or listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field.
  • Raise the university rank in international classifications and support their entry in the upcoming ranks.
  • Support the university's opportunities in receiving academic, institutional and program accreditation.  

     

    APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

     
  1. When applying, the lead researcher has to be an employee in the university or the self-operating in King Abdullah University Hospital. 
  2. The Lead Researcher should have a research output in a scientific journal classified in WOS or listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field in the last two years and should not be less than two research.
  3. The research should be published in journals listed within the database of Web of Science, which has an impact factor according to the Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics) (Q1, Q2), of all majors, or listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field.
  4. The name of the lead researcher should be the first in the published scientific paper or the correspondent researcher.
  5. The first affiliation of all researchers of Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, King Abdullah Hospital should be for Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, King Abdullah Hospital, and the official university e-mail is used in all forms of communication with the journal.
  6. The participation rate of researchers of Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, King Abdullah Hospital and other local public sectors is not less than two-thirds of researchers (the one third is only for regional and international researchers).
  7. The research should be completed by submitting the fully published scientific paper within a maximum period of six months from the date signing the contract, and no research will be accepted after exceeding the specified period.
  8. The research should not have received any support from any other party within the university.
  9. The Lead Researcher has the right to apply for the program with 10 research papers as maximum in one funding cycle.
  10. The research must be in the same field of the researcher's specialization or another related field.
  11. The type of the published research must be either an original article, review article or case report. Other types are not acceptable.
  12. The content and the ideas of the research should not contradict the Islamic values, national vision, university's objective.
  13. All the scientific research outputs are owned by the Deanship of Scientific Research, whether they are patents, products or applications. That is, in accordance with what is stipulated in Article Six, Paragraph (A) of the law of patents and layout designs for integrated studies, plant varieties, and industrial designs, whether for inventions that are registered at the national or external level.
  14. The researchers should adhere to scientific honesty and the ethics of scientific research, and the university funding committee undertakes to consider any violations in this regard and take the necessary action.
  15. The lead researcher undertakes not to change any data in the research, the form of gratitude or the numbers or names of the researchers after the research appears on the journal's website and receiving the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) of the research. However, in case of any change, the Deanship of Scientific Research has the right to cancel the contract and refer the matter to the scientific research ethics committee.
  16. The affiliation of all researchers of Princess Nourah University must be indicated to the university in the following form:

    Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University.

    Any affiliation mistake regardless of its degree will not be accepted.
  17. An acknowledgement for the Deanship of Scientific Research for supporting the research must be included in the following form: T

    This research was funded by the Deanship of Scientific Research at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University through the Fast-track Research Funding Program to support publication within the top journal (Grant no. 42-FTTJ-xx)


    PROCEDURES
  • The submission is done electronically after preparing the research in its final form, in accordance with the publication requirements or after receiving an initial acceptance and requesting minor amendments or after receiving a final acceptance for final review and modification before publishing through the following link:

In addition to completing all the data in the specific form and uploading all required attachment.

 

  1. The application should be reviewed by an internal committee at the Deanship of Scientific Research.
  2. In case of approval, the Lead Researcher will receive an email with the grant number and a copy of the contract for his/her signature.
  3. The Lead Researcher should sign the contract and send it electronically, within a maximum period of five days from the date of receiving it.
  4. After publishing the research in the databases of Web of Science Core Collection (WOS) that has an impact factor according to the report of Journal Citation Report (Clarivate Analytics) (Q1, Q2). Or be listed among the top 10 journals in a specialized field for various fields of science, including science, engineering, medical, applied, humanitarian, and social fields, the exchange request is submitted electronically.
  5. After approval, the application is sent to the financial department to exchange the financing value approved by the Deanship of Scientific Research.
  6. The researcher is provided with the number and date of the exchange letter to follow up the financial affairs.
  7. The amount spent for published research would be (40.000) Riyals for the rapid funding program, to support publishing in elite journals “Tamyuz" including (research expenses and Researchers' reward), this does not act as an advance that requires payment.
  8. The amount should be disbursed to the Lead Researcher and he/she shall distribute it among the researchers according to their contributions in the research. Any financial problems that may arise between researchers will not be considered.​​
