​- Medical terminology :

              The Medical Terminology (DPY 122) course is designed to introduce students at Foundation level to the word parts and meaning, abbreviation, spelling and pronunciation of basic medical terms associated with the human body in health and disease, medical diagnosis, treatment, specialties and specialists as related to the body systems. Students will differentiate between the four word-parts that form these medical terms: word roots, combining forms, prefixes and suffixes. Furthermore, they will learn the correct pronunciation, spelling and abbreviation (where applicable) of these medical terms in order to use them correctly in written and verbal communication.

 

In addition ,The main objective of this course is to introduce students to the meaning of medical words and phrases commonly used in the medical field related to different body systems including structures, procedures, diseases, medications, specialties and specialists. ​


​- Health profession skills:

             This course is offered to students in Deanship of preparatory year (DPY) / Health track to introduce them to the essential health professions skills including Self-directed Learning (SDL), Problem-based Learning (PBL), Team-based Learning (TBL), critical and analytical thinking, creativity, collaboration, leadership, communication, problem solving and time management, using the student-centered learning approach through small group work activities, lectures, assignments and presentations.


​- Introduction to health professions and ethics :

            This course introduces students to basic healthcare concepts including Healthcare Systems with special emphasis on the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia, Principles of Healthcare Ethics, Professionalism, Infection Control and Basic Life Support. Furthermore, the course offers basic Career Orientation by introducing students to various programs offered in the PNU Health Colleges to help students identify healthcare career options most suitable to themselves.


​​- Fundamentals of scentific research :

           This course introduces students to the essential skills of scientific research. In this course, students are required to understand the different parts of a scientific research paper, formulate a research question, conduct a literature search and review, gather reliable data, as well as use various medical databases and referencing management tools. Students will write a mini research proposal and conduct a micro survey. Students will collect, analyze and interpret data, and present their results both in written and oral format through a research poster and PowerPoint presentation.

         The main objective of the course it to develop students' knowledge and equip them with the essential scientific research skills and competencies at the foundation level, as a means of enhancing their university studies and lifelong learning.
