About the Department

​​The Department of Clinical Dental Sciences is responsible for both preclinical and clinical instruction of dental students in the disciplines of restorative dentistry, endodontics, fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics, dental implants, dental materials, dental anatomy, and occlusion. As one of the largest departments in the school, the Clinical Dental Sciences department has broad and extensive involvement in the teaching of the dental program, which strives to transfer evidence-based knowledge to students through an interdisciplinary coordinated curriculum.

 

The Department of Clinical Dental Sciences consists of the following divisions:

•       Restorative Dentistry

•       Endodontics

•       Prosthodontics

•       Dental Materials


Dental Materials

Division of Dental Materials provides basic didactic coursework to dental students. The courses are offered in a parallel path with all other courses to teach the students about modern dental materials and their uses. These courses are designed to provide a fundamental understanding of materials science behind contemporary materials used in dentistry and involve learning about the physical, chemical, mechanical and biological properties of all materials used.

 

Endodontics

The Division of Endodontics provides education to develop competent diagnosticians and clinicians in the field of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases involving the dental pulp and the tissues at the root apex.

Preclinical and clinical education operates within the context of the Simulation Clinic Laboratories and Clinics of the dental facilities of the dental school utilizing the latest modern concepts in rotary instrumentation and thermoplastic obturation.

 

Restorative Dentistry

The Division of Restorative Dentistry is the area of dentistry that focuses on the diagnosis, comprehensive treatment, and evidence-based restorative dentistry teaching for dental students.

 

The teaching of the specialty begins from the 1st year and continues into the 5th year. Dental student education is comprehensive and is integrated through a series of didactic, laboratory, clinical, and seminar courses. Preclinical and clinical education operates within the context of the state of the art simulation clinic laboratories, virtual laboratories and clinics of the dental facilities of the dental school. the division is well equipped with the latest technology and the students get an opportunity to work on a state of the art equipment.


Prosthodontics

Division of Prosthodontics involves a number of disciplines including fixed prosthodontics, removable prosthodontics and implant dentistry. The breadth of the teaching pertains to the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, appearance, and health of patients with clinical conditions associated with missing or deficient teeth.

Faculty are involved in the preclinical and clinical teaching of dental students starting from the 2nd year of the dental program. The teaching methodology used incorporates a variety of interlinked learning methods including lectures, lab sessions, clinical sessions, and group discussions with special emphasis on the problem-based learning strategy. All modern techniques are practiced.
