Procedures for establishing a research chair

1- A university faculty member submits a proposal for a chair to the Research Chairs Secretariat through the secretariat's means of communication, and attaches the following forms:

o   a. A proposed plan of a research chair form, and all requirements are attached to the form.

o   b. The operational plan of a research chair form.

o   c. Reference studies form for a proposed research chair.

o  d. A letter from the external financer to fund the chair if the chair is approved.

2- The proposal submitted to the Research Chairs Secretariat is examined to ensure the integrity of the proposal and its fulfillment of all regulations of the Research chairs as follows:

o   a. There is no research chair in the same field in the Saudi university or universities.

o   b. The added value of the proposed chair for the university and society.

o   c. The feasibility of the research chair and its role in serving the knowledge economy and sustainable development.

o    d. The extent of the chair's contribution to achieving the strategic plan for research chairs within the framework of the university's strategic plan.

    • o​    e. Expertise in the proposed field of the chair are engaged to evaluate the chair, and to submit this to the Research Chairs Council according to evaluation form of a proposed research chair  

    • 3- The goals of the chair should be in line with the national strategy for a knowledge-based economy and the university's strategic plan. The proposal of the research chair is presented to the Council of Research Chairs for approval , rejection, or editing. The proposal is returned again to the Council of Chairs for final approval. And in case of need, the council may ask the presenter for a detailed presentation of the chair's proposal.

4- In the event that the council and the university rector approves the operational plan of the chair, and the chair has financiers, the proposal is submitted to the university council, including the financier's letter of desire for funding.

5- In the event that the council's approval and the absence of a funder, the chair's proposal is saved until a financer is available or it is referred to internal funding.

6- The decision to appoint a chair head is issued after approval of the strategic and operational plan for the chair by the Research Chairs Council, in which the date and duration are specified. The assignment decision is an official obligation for the chair head to start the chair's activities and events in accordance with the approved operational plan.
