General Administration of Safety

Overview

The General Administration of Safety was established as an independent administration by virtue of the decision of Her Excellency the Rector of the University No. ((19601 dated 4/23/1439 AH)) to separate the Safety Department from the Security Department. The Administration follows a number of units, namely the Occupational and Environmental Safety and Health Unit, the Emergency and Evacuation Unit, and the Safety Unit (women). In the year 1440 A.H., the Rector of the University issued a decision No. (38259) dated 1/11/1440 A.H. to develop the administrative organization of the university's vice-rectorates and departments, whereby the Occupational and Environmental Health and Safety Unit was transformed into a department under the name of the Occupational and Health Administration. The establishment of this department comes from the university's belief in the importance of safety in Creating a safe work environment free of accidents, in addition to its importance in preserving lives and property, by taking precautionary measures that ensure prevention from the occurrence of any misfortune - God forbid.

Tasks

- Providing a safe work environment by providing all precautions and safety measures.

- Preserving the safety and lives of students and workers and preventing them from potential dangers that may occur as a result of any negligence in achieving public safety conditions.

- Taking care of the surrounding environment and not polluting it.

- Applying international standards for safety.

- Spreading the culture of safety among workers and all those inside the university.

- Verifying the establishment and application of public safety, occupational health and environment systems.

- Submit a periodic report after the administration review on the performance of safety and environmental systems to the higher authorities for the purpose of reviewing and making the required improvement and taking the necessary decision towards the negligent authorities accountable.

- Planning administration reviews.

- Determine the names of those who carry out internal audits, follow up on cases of non-conformity that appear during the audits, and ensure that the necessary corrective and preventive measures are taken.

- Plan, organize, direct and control all occupational safety, health and environment activities

- Preparing the Safety and Environment Manual and updating it.

- Follow-up plans for safety, occupational health and the environment.

- Implementation of the occupational and environmental health and safety policy.

- Overseeing documents, record keeping and procedures related to occupational and environmental health and safety.

- Overcoming difficulties and resolving disputes that may arise with managers of companies sponsoring the university campus, if requested.

- Representing the administration in front of the ISO certification bodies according to the vision of the authorized official.

- Having the full powers towards the development of safety, occupational health and environment systems, and are specified with the approval of those in authority.

- Evaluate the level of employee performance and make the necessary recommendations.

- Supervising occupational health and safety training for university employees and students.

- Addressing the concerned authorities and companies to provide fire-fighting equipment at the university and training in their use in emergency situations.

 

Departments

Health and Occupational Safety Department:

- Supervising the activities of the university, companies and investors in its buildings, facilities and sites and ensuring the application of environmental and safety standards according to the requirements of the occupational safety and health system.

- Work to identify occupational risks periodically in the university's internal and external activities.

-  Supervising those concerned with occupational safety and health at the university in its buildings, facilities and sites, and following up the application of the system on a regular basis.

- Submit periodic public safety reports on violations of safety requirements, breakdowns, accidents, fire or inspections according to the quality management system models.

- Providing awareness and self-training in coordination with the concerned specialists and publishing them periodically to university employees or through the safety training program for distance education.

- Work to permanently reduce occupational risks at the university.

 

Emergency and Evacuation Department:

- Facing emergency cases and carrying out evacuations and periodic firefighting and rescue exercises to ensure the safety of university employees.

- Preparing and participating in emergencies that may occur.

- Supervising the implementation and updating of integrated systems in the fields of emergency, supervising their security, training on their use, coordinating with the concerned authorities, and implementing the quality management system.

- Supervising the formation and training of emergency management teams in each of the educational and administrative facilities of the university that it supervises, defining the duties and responsibilities entrusted to them according to the approved mechanisms, emergency committees and defining their tasks in coordination with the relevant authorities.

Spreading awareness and education in the fields of emergency through training and using the means of communication available at the university.
